Moving In The Rain

Moving In The Rain

Moving in the rain can cause some major headaches. From wet furniture to slippery roads, there are several things to consider when moving on the wettest of days. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to make moving in the rain easier and more efficient. Here are some tips for making a rainy day move as stress-free as possible.

Prepare for Rain Ahead of Time

The best way to stay prepared for a rainstorm is to plan ahead. If you know it’s going to be raining on the day you move, make sure that you have enough packing supplies like boxes, bags, and tarps on hand. These items should be used to keep furniture dry while moving them from one place to another. It’s also important that you wear the right clothing; opt for lightweight waterproof jackets or raincoats so that you can stay dry while loading up your belongings into the moving vehicle.

Protect Your Valuables From Water Damage

When packing up items like books or pictures, wrap them in plastic wrap or put them inside plastic bins with lids before putting them in boxes. This will ensure that they remain safe from water damage even if they get wet during a storm.

Plastic Bags

Keep your precious items safe from the rain with a few simple tips. Slip plastic garbage bags over cardboard boxes and cut holes in them for hangers when protecting clothing. Utilize Ziplocs to keep small objects dry and organized during transport. Stretch wrap is an ideal choice for furniture, electronics, or anything else with precise contours – if you don’t have any on hand use alternative materials such as quilts, comforters or towels (thicker layers will provide better protection).

Cardboard

A great solution to protect your floors, hallways, and stairs when moving in the rain is laying down cardboard. Absorbing moisture and providing a non-slippery surface for walking on it will prevent slipping hazards. Tape helps to keep it securely placed as you move heavy objects around. Have at least two sets of cardboard ready; one at each side of your relocation, so that if things get wetter than expected there’s no need to wait—just swap out the soggy layer with another fresh set!

Collection & Drop-Off Point

When moving, make unpacking easier on everyone by creating a drop-off point near the front of your house or in an available garage. Gather as many belongings together and have them ready for movers to bring straight into that one area.

Dry Immediately

Keep your home and belongings safe from water damage: make sure to wipe down any items you bring inside immediately upon their arrival. Have a stack of towels on hand so if something does get wet, it can be dried off as soon as possible – remember that wood and fabrics absorb moisture quickly!

Take Your Time

Take your time in wet weather conditions! When the ground is slippery and rain is pouring, it’s important to slow down — not just for safety reasons but also because exhaustion can quickly lead to mistakes.
